WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC?
Chiropractic is the science, art and philosophy of correcting malpositions of the spine and pelvis. Chiropractic deals with the laws of the living without drugs, injections or surgery.
These frequently occurring misalignments, so-called “subluxations” affect your overall health. They can cause weakness, fatigue and pain, affect your quality of life and cause symptoms and illnesses.
WHAT IS A SUBLUXATION?
Our body is a miracle of nature…as can be recognized in the complex function of the joints. Are the bones in the ideal axis, the joint will work smoothly throughout a whole lifetime. In chiropractic a malposition of the joint is called subluxation. Through subluxations arthrosis can develop, a degenerative disease also known as “wear and tear of the joints.”
Subluxation can also trigger many other diseases.

In a spine with subluxations transmission of nerve impulses is disturbed, hindering communication between the brain and the rest of the body—every cell, tissue and organ is connected to the CNS . Subluxations cause a decline of capacity for optimal regulation, the body is unable to function at it`s 100 per cent.
Recent research by Bruce Lipton, Ph.D. (Developmental biologist, stem cell researcher) shows that the function of every cell in our body is controlled by the perception of the nervous system (link video). Subluxations of the spine and pelvic girdle interfere significantly with perception and therefore with regulation through the CNS.
HOW ARE SUBLUXATIONS CAUSED?
Subluxations can occur at any age. Often the birthing process causes subluxations early in life. The main causes are considered the “Three Ts”: Trauma (physical), Toxins (chemical) and Thoughts (psychological).
Trauma is the most well-known cause of subluxation. It can be caused by sheer force. Slips and falls, car crashes, sports injuries or operations often cause permanent misalignments. But your body experiences micro traumas every day—and these may surprise you. Habits such as false posture at work through long periods of sitting at the computer, improper lifting, carrying a purse or bag on the same side of your body, wearing high heels, sleeping on your stomach, crossing your legs, etc.
Toxins, as a cause of subluxation, may also not be as obvious. Think of your body as one big unit of chemicals—when the body is healthy and balanced chemically, it’s in a state of homeostasis. Depending on the toxic chemicals you take in through food, drink and environment, your body’s homeostasis can be disrupted, causing imbalances. Toxins enter the body in many ways: poor nutrition, air pollution, chemicals in cleaning supplies and even the water in plastic bottles. Not getting enough physical exercise can cause toxins to build up in your body. These imbalances can cause muscular contractions or change fibre lengths in the muscles, causing subluxations.
The third “T,” Thoughts (a.k.a. stress), is a very common cause of subluxations. Often caused by stress at work i.e. time pressure or emotional stress. Think about it: you can be lying on a sandy beach somewhere but can feel completely stressed by thinking about work and problems back at home. When you’re stressed, muscles in your neck and upper back become tight releasing stress hormones, thus causing subluxations through physical and chemical stressors.
